Dear Fellow Educator,

Thank you for requesting SOAR®’s Free Digital Curriculum Review Copy! Please check your inbox; your review copy has been emailed to you.

As a former teacher, I know the frustrations and roadblocks you must overcome, both inside and outside your classroom. That’s why I created the SOAR® Study Skills Curriculum to be as simple to use for teachers, as it is for students.

The SOAR® Curriculum includes student books and our dynamic Multi Media Teacher’s Guide. The Multi-Media Teacher’s Guide features:

  1. Done-for-you lesson plans. The ready-made lesson plans can be the basis of a stand-alone study skills class, or can be embedded across the curriculum.
  2. Multiple Assessments give you plenty of options for monitoring progress.
  3. 180 done-for-you slides with interactive visuals for demonstration and instruction.
  4. Clean, bright, colorful presentations to capture students' interest and reach your visual learners.
  5. Hands-on activities and interactive, multi-media videos and links to reach your audio and kinesthetic learners.
  6.  A lot of support! If you are unsure of how to teach study skills, we've incorporated background information and teaching tips for each step of the way.

Start using SOAR® today with just a few minutes of prep time and watch your students soar with new organization and time/task management skills!

"What Grade Levels Use SOAR®?"

The SOAR® curriculum is appropriate for students in middle school and high school. Beginning in middle school, the types of school tasks remain the same through college; all levels have to take notes, complete assignments, read textbooks, write papers, and take tests. Students only need to know a few, fundamental strategies to do each of these tasks efficiently.

However, the curriculum includes special supplements for Middle School, High School, and students with ADHD/LD to help you best tailor instruction to the unique social/emotional needs of each level.

"How Do I Know SOAR® Works?"

SOAR® is proven to raise the average GPA of a full student body by ONE full, point! See more information here.

Teachers declare SOAR® 98.9% effective in improving student performance! Teachers at Woodward Academy, an elementary and middle school in the heart of Detroit, MI, were asked to complete a survey about the effectiveness of the SOAR® system. See more details here.

Do Any of These Comments Sound Familiar?

  • “I left my homework at home!”
  • “I forgot we had a test today!”
  • “I did my homework, but I can’t find it.”
  • “Reading a textbook is boring. I never remember what I read, anyway.”

As a teacher, you hear these phrases over and over again. You probably come to expect them. As a former teacher, I heard them, too!

That won’t be the case any longer!

“What Does SOAR® Study Skills Cover?”

SOAR covers the study skills that allow students to:

  • Identify students' strengths & “SuperPowers” (according to Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences)
  • Set goals
  • Establish priorities
  • Manage time
  • Organize papers, desks, lockers, & other space
  • Speak & listen effectively
  • Work with teachers & peers
  • Read and understand textbooks
  • Take notes
  • Study for tests
  • Write research papers
  • Prepare for presentations
  • Track long-term goals

In Education, We Call Them “Study Skills.”
In the Workplace, They're Called “Soft Skills."

Soft skills are the skills needed to be a life-long learner, think critically, make decisions independently and communicate effectively. They are the skills needed in a global economy!

The importance of soft skills is further supported by the Stanford Research Institute and Carnegie Melon Foundation. After surveying 500 CEOs, they determined that 75% of long-term career success depends on soft skills, while only 25% percent depends on technical knowledge.Soft Skills Image

No matter how advanced our society becomes, soft skills will always be the key to success. These skills allow people to effectively adapt to their ever-evolving jobs and learn the “hard skills”, or technical information needed to be successful.

Yet soft skills are largely ignored in education! I recently searched the internet for “soft skills” and combed through 60 results before finding a link to any type of educational institution addressing soft skills in their curriculum; it was a community college! (Delaware Tech & Community College, if you are wondering.)

Do Soft Skills/ Study Skills Make a Difference in School?

I've already highlighted some performance stats about SOAR Study Skills, above. To recap, SOAR has been proven to raise GPAs by an average of ONE full point and teachers declare the program 98.9% effective. But, there's more...

Ohio State University published a study in 2009 confirming the dramatic impact study skills have on college graduation rates. According to the study:

45% was the increased likelihood that “struggling” high school students would graduate from college if they took a study skills class.

600% was the increased likelihood that “average” high school students would continue in college if they took a study skills class!

Imagine the impact these skills would have on students if they could learn them earlier than college. Imagine what these skills will do for these students after college…

How Does SOAR® Make It So Simple?

We strictly follow the three "student-friendly" criteria; all SOAR®strategies are:

  1. Time-efficient,
  2. Effective, and
  3. Apply across all content areas!

Time efficiency is the first and most critical step for student buy-in! If students perceive that a strategy or skill is going to take a long time and involve a lot of steps, they will check out immediately. However, if they realize that the focus is on reducing study time, they perk up and pay attention.

They will automatically develop the intrinsic motivation to use their new-found skills and develop more of their own!

This effectiveness can be seen through our multiple case studies, reviews, and video testimonial.

Finally, the study skills must apply across all content areas. This way, there is NO confusion about when to use a skill.

It’s that simple!
