How is a lesson built?
Every lesson is built in three layers — by design.
Layer 1
Collect Prior Knowledge
Inquiry-style questions that activate what students already know and drive engagement before new content is introduced. Activities can be done solo, but are optimal as social learning experiences.
Layer 2
Connect New Information
New content delivered in visual layers: graphics, captions, bold text. The same layered reading approach SOAR teaches students explicitly in Lesson 10.
Layer 3
Confirm Understanding
Apply + Practice activities, discussion prompts, and extension options. Use what time allows.
