Is Your Focus on Elementary School?

How Glorious the Elementary School Years Are!

A new roundup of children enter kindergarten curious and excited about elementary school! You watch as your prior year students’ move up to the next grade level, proud of their responsibilities as the “bigger” kids. Parent involvement is high.

Student enthusiasm and engagement is self-guided. Milestones and accomplishments are celebrated. Students’ confidence soars – growth and ownership for their learning emerges. Light bulbs are going off! You’re doing what you set out to do as promising new educator…change LIVES!

Right?! Or maybe…

Elementary school is supposed to be all “rainbows and unicorns,” right?

You’re overwhelmed and feel you have to manage everything for your students. Perhaps you have a bunch of disorganized learners, or a community of unengaged parents.  State-mandated expectations don’t easily match your students’ developmental abilities. And those expectations are constantly changing. If that’s not enough, at-risk populations have emerged in your classroom.

You are exhausted! You’ve been trying to find a way to cater to the many needs of your students.

Are You Working TOO Hard?

The challenges you face are a result of many factors. They are intensified by the requirements of The System.  The System demands you teach content, content, content. Then it requires follow up with tests, tests, and more tests!

That’s a lot of pressure on you and your students.

The System should support and encourage your students to learn the fundamental skills necessary to organize or to learn effectively.  A foundation that will set your students up for many more years of educational success and fulfillment.

Your Biggest Obstacles

You have “unengaged” and “challenging” students, uninvolved or overinvolved parents, pressures from administrators, and a ton of mandates! These are ALL time drainers!  They keep you from making a difference in your students’ lives and hamper your own sense of accomplishment.

According to Monster.com, teachers are more likely than other professionals to:

  • Take work at home.
  • Work on a Sunday.
  • Hold multiple jobs.

But, what if you discovered a way to transform YOUR Life AND your students’ lives?

Education Completely Ignores a Critical Law of the Universe

There is a simple, universal rule that governs our lives.  People who understand it, use it to accomplish more in far less time. People who don’t use it waste tons of time and energy generating less-than-ideal results.

It’s called the 80/20 Rule. 80/20 states that roughly 20% of our actions produce 80% of our results, or 80% of effects comes from 20% of causes.

We see examples of 80/20 in every part of the world and our lives:

  • 80% of the clothes you own are only worn 20% of the time.  Conversely, you wear 20% of your clothes 80% of the time!
  • 80% of crimes are committed by 20% of criminals.
  • In the classroom, 20% of your students demand 80% of your time and energy.

80% of Your Time Only Reaches 20% of Your Students!

This means that in a six-hour day with 30 students, you spend over 4.75 hours on just six students!  It’s no wonder you’re exhausted and frustrated!

You’ve Already Given Everything You’ve Got!  You Just Can’t Give ANY More!

What if you made your top “time drainers” more independent and efficient? What if you could focus on the top 20% of skills that would have 80% of the impact on your students?

There is a way that would give you more time and energy to focus on the things that really matter.  It provides structure for your students, celebrates the originality of each student by building on their natural aptitudes, and makes your curriculum relevant to the “real world.”

Teach study skills!
