160 pages, including instructions.

Yes. Our program is based on extensive research. More information is available here.

Q: Is customer service and support available?

Yes. We are committed to providing friendly and efficient service and are happy to answer any of your questions and assist with any technical issues. You can find additional information by clicking Contact Us on the top of any page on our website.

Q: Do you offer anything for SAT, ACT, or other standardized test preparation?

We are sorry, but we do not address standardized test prep. There are so many tools available that we felt we could not offer anything “new” to that topic. We recommend that you take a look the SAT or ACT website and perhaps a Kaplan-type program. We do believe that practice will improve the score because much of it is being able to problem-solve and use test-taking strategies.

Teacher FAQs

Q: What is the SOAR® Study Skills Curriculum?

The SOAR® Study Skills Curriculum was designed to address the study and organizational needs of upper elementary, middle, high school, and college students. The following are some of the topics covered in our program:

-Managing time

-Organizing papers

-Completing homework

-Reading textbooks

-Studying for tests

-Taking notes

-Taking tests

-Communicating with teachers & parents

-Writing research papers

-Setting goals

Q: What is included in the SOAR® Study Skills Curriculum?

TheSOAR® Study Skills Curriculum includes theSOAR® Study Skills Book and theSOAR® Multi-Media Teacher’s Guide.

The student text captures the core program for students, but theSOAR® Multi-Media Teacher’s Guide provides additional options.

The Multi-Media Teacher’s Guide was created in response to teachers who needed additional resources to fill a long-term (quarter or semester-long) class. The Multi-Media Teacher’s Guide includes a ready to go presentation that is used to present the SOAR® Study Skills material to students, teaching tips/instructor background notes, additional reproducibles, assessments, internet activities, and internet video links.

Please visit our homepage for further information and for the opportunity to download a free digital review copy of the curriculum.

Q: Is there a way that I can see what is included with the SOAR® Study Skills Curriculum?

Please visit our homepage. Fill in your information on the right side of the screen to access your free digital review copy of the SOAR® Study Skills Curriculum.

Q: How long does the SOAR® Study Skills Curriculum for teachers usually take to cover?

This depends largely on how you plan to implement the curriculum. Options for program implementation include, but are not limited to:

- Year-round class

- Semester, quarter, or trimester class

- Embedded into the curriculum of core classes

- Before or after school programs

- Tutoring programs

For more information on how each of these options work, click here.

Q: What “type” of student can benefit from learning strategic learning skills?

The beauty of “strategic learning skills” is that they level the playing field for ALL students. Struggling or “at risk” students benefit from learning how to learn and access their potential. Students who have traditionally done well in school benefit from learning how to learn more efficiently and make better use of their time.

Q: Can I use the SOAR® system in one class or does it have to be school-wide?

The choice is yours. SOAR® is a system developed to apply across content areas, so it works well as the basis for a school-wide system. However, the curriculum works very well to guide instruction for a specific “learning/study skills” class.

Q: Is professional development required?

No, professional development is not required. The curriculum resources provide plenty of information to implement the program. However, professional development provides a good “jump start” for schools that are looking to implement a school-wide system.

Q: What are my options for professional development?

We offer pre-recorded, web-based, and live training. More information is available here.

Q: How do I know that these skills will help my students prepare for college or careers?

Colleges are in the business of attracting and retaining students. In the interest of keeping students on campus once they have enrolled, colleges have identified that many of their students have a serious lack of proper learning skills. If you do an internet search on “study skills,” you will find that most of the study skills resources available are provided by colleges and universities desperately trying to “catch” and assist students before they drop out.

The challenges of today’s careers require the same skills. If you survey a few employers (whether they employ high school students at a fast-food restaurant or college graduates), you will find that their greatest challenge is finding reliable employees who are able to think critically, learn new skills, and troubleshoot problems on the job.

Study skills, or “strategic learning skills,” are the set of soft skills that enable students to organize, prioritize, and manage new learning to be successful, either in college or on the job.

Q: Are there other schools using this program?

See list of known schools using SOAR® on the Who Is Using SOAR®? page.

Q: How can SOAR® help improve my school’s AYP?

At SOAR®, we view the students who have been your “most challenging” as some of the “easiest” students to reach because we are able to acknowledge their struggles and offer refreshing alternatives to traditional learning methods. These students have suffered from a lack of engagement in the classroom, but with a few tools and a new perspective, they can transform their comprehension and performance in school, which is a great gift for each individual student and has a tremendous impact on your AYP.

Tutor FAQs

Q: Will I need any other supplies to teach this program besides the Tutoring Enrichment Guide?

Yes, you will need one copy of theSOAR® Study Skills Book for each student.

In addition to the student book, we also recommend a binder, plastic folders, and notebook paper to help students establish the binder system that is a cornerstone organizational strategy in SOAR®. We do provide a “Guide for Purchasing Additional Supplies” with our bonus edition, and we also offer the SOAR® Binder System Supplies Kit that contains everything the student will need to implement the SOAR® Binder System.

Q: I want to offer the program to the students that I tutor, but I am concerned about having to purchase a book and a supply kit for each student.

It is quite common for tutors to charge parents a materials fee to cover these expenses. If you explain to parents why these supplies are critical to implementing the program, most will not have any problem paying for the products. You can even generate some additional revenue from your supply fee by purchasing the SOAR® Study Skills Books with a bulk discount and reselling them at retail value.

Q: Is there a way that I can see what is included with the Tutoring Enrichment Guide?

Please click here to request a free preview of theSOAR® Tutoring Enrichment Guide.

Q: How is the program delivered?
